Making Waves
A new pioneering project from YWAM England ...
YWAM England, together with its maritime branch Marine Reach Ministries, purchased the 42 metre sailing ship, s/y Next Wave, in March 2007. This vessel is being used primarily for character and leadership development, sail training, evangelism, short-term mission trips and outreaches. We are also exploring other opportunities such as retreats, reconciliation initiatives, and mercy ministries. Our home port is in Liverpool but the vessel’s field of operation is in the Mediterranean, with a focus to be working long-term in the Middle East and North Africa.
 Crew
The Next Wave is staffed with up to 16 crew and also has the capacity to take 32 trainees. Our long-term crew are asked to make a commitment for a minimum of two years and need to have completed a YWAM Discipleship Training School (DTS). Crew may also apply for a shorter term, from two weeks up to one year. No previous sailing experience is necessary as sail training will be given. The Next Wave is coming home!
As of Spring 2008, the Next Wave has already completed a PR tour around England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (summer of 2007), held a Discipleship Training Week with YWAM Ireland, and hosted a King's Kids summer outreach and a youth group from Baltimore, USA. Our first Bluewater Discipleship Training School was held from September 2007-March 2008 with outreaches in Bethlehem, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. Currently the March 2008 Bluewater DTS is underway with 13 students from nine different nations on-board with the ship’s crew staffing the school. In January and February 2008 we hosted the outreach phase of a Discipleship Training School from YWAM England’s King’s Lodge training location in Durres, Albania, where we worked alongside YWAM Albania in various projects.

At the recent YWAM England staff gathering, 200 YWAMers raised over £60,000 towards the Next Wave in one evening. The momentum is building! Faith is rising!
