The Big Hope in Liverpool, 4-11 June 2008

A special opportunity for YWAMers and young people of faith and vision.

Calling all YWAMers and “young people of faith and vision who want to make a contribution in today's world”! Come to a unique opportunity to engage with the major issues of our day, to hear from key leaders, and to make relationships with future leaders from around the world.

This year, one of Britain’s newest universities, Liverpool Hope University, is hosting a special event called the Big Hope, which is a major contribution to Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture programme. The Big Hope will open on Wednesday 4 June 2008 at the Roman Catholic Cathedral and close on Wednesday 11 June 2008 at the Anglican Cathedral. Venues such as the Philharmonic Hall will be used.

The organisers aim to attract 1,000 people aged 18-35 from around the world. They are calling for "young people of faith and vision who want to make a contribution in today's world and are actual or potential leaders.” There will be speakers and forums coming from different faith perspectives and the participants will come from varying backgrounds, but the organisers are keen that people should express their faith position clearly. Each morning will begin with Christian worship.

Keynote speakers include Cherie Booth QC, Archbishop of York John Sentamu, the Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster Cormac Murphy O’Connor, Baroness Caroline Cox, and Lord David Alton of Liverpool. From YWAM, national directors Braulia Ribeiro (Brazil) and Alejandro Rodriguez (Argentina) have also agreed to speak.
There will also be a strand on the theology and practice of “World Misssions, the Christian Magna Carta” led by Paul Hopkins, Rosemary James and Alistair Cuthbert of YWAM England. The aim is to equip theologically and challenge participants with the new world missions movement.
Also the three leaders of the Lifeline Expedition David Pott (UK), Monette Tapa Mekomou (Martinique) and Joseph Zintseme (Cameroun), who will lead a strand on reconciliation and plan to launch a new reconciliation initiative, Repairers International, at the event.
