Thousands dead, hundreds of thousands left destitute in Sindh, following torrential rains and a cyclone.

Whole villages swept away, crops completely destroyed, livestock drowned.

YWAM has a Rapid Response Team in the area now. They report:

"While the army is seeking out families and individuals stranded in the flood stricken area, hardly any relief supplies have been distributed. Many victims have not eaten for days and there is an immediate need for food rations. We want to supply 1,000 families with food survival packs now. Please help us to buy these as soon as possible. The local police want to help and will assist us in the distribution process, but we need funds to buy food and truck it into the stricken area."

The Rapid Response Team is headed up by Sindhi-speaking people who are familiar with the area and its diverse tribes. They will soon be joined by YWAM staff from Lahore who will bring medicines and other supplies from there.

The team wants to purchase wheat flour, rice, pulses, cooking oil, sugar, tea and matches. Please help us to buy food to sustain the lives of survivors. They are some of the hardest working but poorest communities in the country. They have been left with nothing, not even shade to protect them from the harsh sunshine experienced in this usually desertified area of Sindh. Once families are out of danger we will be looking at how we can help them recover in the long-term from this terrible tragedy.
